Update 1 - London

I was in London with my father from the 11th to the 13th. In the end, due to a lack of motivation and energy, poor time management and me being sick (I think it was the bi bim bap that I'd eaten earlier), we didn't actually get a lot done.

However, I saw the Skin exhibition at the Wellcome Museum, which was really enjoyable and quite fascinating; I discovered another great restaurant, Giraffe; we went on a speed boat along the River Thames, and of course that was a lot of fun; I finally saw Harrods, and absolutely hated it (never, ever again - I don't like pretension, as we all know).

Oh, and you can't visit London without seeing a show, so we watched Hair, and it was so good (maybe that's a wanton use of italics, but the 'so' needed to be emphasised). Definitely the best musical I've seen since Avenue Q, and I'm tempted to see it again (much like with Avenue Q). So, all in all, the three days in London weren't as packed as they could have been, and the trip was more eventful than I'd expected it would be, but seeing a great musical made it all worth it.

On a final note, I visited 6 coffee shops in three days (three of which were on the last day), and three M&Ss in that time, too. Quite impressive, I'd say.

If we were perpetual...

Then I'd tell you everything, literally everything, that I love about London. Well, we're not so I'll try to shorten that a bit, but anyway:

  • As soon as you get off the train, you immediately feel part of something bigger and better than yourself, like your future
  • You're never stuck for food - if you want chips and green tea at the same time, you can have it
  • Everyone's busy, constantly occupied, and that's how I like it
  • It has nearly every kind of establishment and attraction - shop, restaurant, museum, musical, play, art gallery, etc. Oh, and all the non-cultural things too, I suppose
  • It's for practically every type of person - it can cater to everyone
  • It has the only MAC Pro shop in the country - yeah, that's still important, even to a non-makeup-wearing person like me
  • There are probably more coffee shops than toilets, but that could be a problem as coffee is a diaretic... oh well!
  • It's the capital of everything (maybe not everything in the world, but a lot revolves around it)
  • It can be expensive, but it's completely worth it
  • You can just spend all day travelling around the various districts
  • Soho - camp (which is a bad thing), very seedy but with many sushi restaurants and an amazing frozen yoghurt place -Snog
  • There are loads of Japanese supermarkets and shops - it's hardly a surprise that most of the money that I spend goes on food, is it?
  • It has strange but occasionally fascinating things like the fourth plinth exhibition
  • You can find every personality, nationality, language, race and culture there
  • It's wonderful to be there whether you're with, parents, friends, grandparents etc. Just don't go with school - it kind of ruins the London experience
  • It moulded me -oh, where would I be without London? I'd have hated to not have had at least some time somewhere lovely before begrudgingly moving to this place

I could go on, but let's leave it there, shall we?

Multicultural

I sound typically British.
Legally, I'm technically Irish.
Some people think I'm secretly French.

It's not an escape from reality...

It's a return. To me, it's still my hometown. My current location just happens to be a place that I am begrudgingly forced to live in.

Yes, it's London. When I'm there, I feel like there's nothing stifling me at all. I feel that I can do almost anything there.

Lots of people go abroad to foreign, sunny destinations. I hate sunbathing and though I love travel, finding vegetarian food is often a big problem.

But London's perfect just as it is. I'll visit museums and art galleries and probably eat some sushi along the way. If I were an art and food critic, I could do that everyday :)

See you in three days.
