Bypass the hearts

It's a bit ridiculous how so many single people are complaining and sighing deeply and conspicuously just because they'll be without a lover on Valentine's Day. So what? As most will agree, the day of Cupid, hearts, flowers, chocolates et al is a giant marketing ploy tailored to fuel our over-consumption and make us feel all romantic (if cliche is romantic) for a day . Considering this, why do we still mope and pity ourselves simply because we're lacking a partner? And besides, it's Chinese New Year tomorrow! There's no sense writing emo-poetry and sobbing into your loveless lap when you could be enjoying some chow mein and egg fried rice while watching the fireworks. Let's get some perspective and sense here - it's the 21st Century in which it's perfectly acceptable to remain single, marry young or old, never get married, date younger or older or outside your race, love someone of the same sex and generally do your own thing without being judged. And being alone on Valentine's Day is simply another one of these things.

I do Valentine's Day ironically

Perhaps I'll spend it with Sam, my dear friend who just so happens to be a boy, doing fun non-romantic things like watching shopping channels and baking cakes or even playing the Ocarina on his iPhone. I've never had a romantic Valentine's Day and that's absolutely fine. I've actually never had a romantic day in my life, but again that's fine. That part of my life is in quite a happy, latent state.

Halloween

Next year, I want to dress up properly. Not just a mask or prop - the full thing. I haven't done this much, the only time I did was for Sam's birthday one year where I dressed up as a cow, udder et al.

I don't know what I'll dress up as, but it won't be a cliche Halloween thing.

Anyway, yesterday was fun. Sam got an iPhone for his birthday so we basically played on that the whole day. The chocolate cake I made for him went down very well, but some people took huge slices and felt sick. We watched some weird Christian cartoons, shopping channels and then a bit of the X Factor on his iPhone. I really want one and I do need a phone, so perhaps after my GCSEs I shall get one. I have enough money for it and I haven't even asked for my birthday present for this year yet (my birthday was in May).

Disappointment

So, even though I know I saw that Bruno was a 15 somewhere, it turns out that the 18 version is currently being shown (it has three minutes including something about pretending to have oral sex with a dead body) so I couldn't see it. The woman serving us at the cinema asked me how old I was and I knew that she wouldn't believe that I was 18. I've always looked older than my age, but I think now it's catching up with me. To be fair, I wear no makeup and often have my hair up so that does make me look younger and it wouldn't be too hard for me to look 18. Apparently in a few weeks (once all the >18 year olds have seen it) they'll start showing the 15 version. I think I'll just wait for the DVD. I don't want to miss out on any extra rudeness :)

I did feel like giving the woman a lecture. Really, how much worse can Bruno be than Borat? That was a 15, and a very good one too which I've seen many, many times. That has racism, sexism, strong language and a long scene consisting entirely of two naked men fighting in a hotel and eventually ending up on stage in front of hundreds of people at a cinema.

Me and my father then went to Starbucks where I ordered a chocolate cream Frappuccino but it took a long time so my dad went to check and it turned out that my first drink had been taken by another customer. We ordered again, and after a while my second drink had been customer. Frustrated, we ordered for a third time. Thankfully, it got to us then and was upgraded to the largest size for free.

So, I suppose it all worked out alright in the end. I only have to wait a few months to see Bruno. Still, it's quite disappointing.

On an irrelevant note, I've never been able to eat ice cream from a tub, for these reasons:

1) I like to decide how much of something I'm going to eat so I don't overindulge, and with a tub it would be quite easy to finish the whole thing off.

2) What if someone else wants some of the ice cream? I know I wouldn't want someone else double-dipping their spoon into my potential dessert.

3) I'd feel so... well, I assume I'd feel like those women on sit-coms that eat ice cream to get over ex-boyfriends.

So I like bowls. M&S ice cream bowls :)
